Panic at Alma Opera House Ends in Fireless Frenzy

A moving picture show by Colonial Moving Picture Co. at Alma Opera House sparked a small fire when empty film and celluloid materials ignited from an arc light. The blaze caused a chaotic rush as spectators fled, seats torn from floors and coats trampled. Water and a fire extinguisher stopped the flame, with no serious injuries reported. Owner J G Stewart valued the loss at 1,500 with 6,500 feet of film destroyed. The operator hoped to extinguish the fire himself but was overwhelmed by panicked patrons.
