Thousands of New York families 500 retailers and hundreds of Pennsylvania state farmers join a Grange backed association to cut middleman profits. The plan acts as a producer consumer clearing house, routing profits from six middlemen to consumers via coupons and periodic refunds rather than lowering posted prices.
Former Utah senator Hon Frank J Cannon, known for opposing polygamy, will lecture at Alma Opera House on Tuesday evening November 14. The talk, titled A Vital One, discusses the Modern Mormon Kingdom and Cannon’s long public role with Mormon reform and a celibate church excommunication over continued practices. He opposed Reed Smoot’s Senate election.
A lecture summary notes interdenominational women’s council warnings about Mormon influence in the United States and worldwide. It cites a circular alleging political and financial power, converts housed in western settlements, and figures such as Heber Grant and Younger Mormon. J W Bernard a longtime St. Louis businessman and community figure died at home after a prolonged illness. He chaired school building projects, served on the city council and cemetery board, and led in Masons and other fraternal groups. Survived by wife and two sons Clive Jr and Fred H Bernard.

State manager of the Mystic Workers of the World will address the Peach lodge in the Pollasky block in Alma on November 16. An interesting program has been arranged and the public is invited to attend and enjoy the evening.
President J L Snyder of the state agricultural college backs Vice President Patriarche of Pere Marquette Railroads call to boost Michigan farm resources. He notes production must double to feed 50 years hence, highlights college efforts with breeding, alfalfa clubs, spraying demos, 18 high schools with agricultural departments, and 65 000 farmer bulletins. He warns against new commissions. emphasizes educational work and proper funding.
A Lansing dispatch in the State Press quotes Secretary of State Frederick C. Martindale saying that strengthening farming interests and teaching farming rudiments in district schools will better Michigan than backing papers and development associations. He cites his roles in the politic domain commission and state immigration commission.
Five farm auctions are advertised in the current Record. George Nickerson promotes sales on Chippewa Road and nearby farms, with J D Helman and J M Montigel acting as auctioneer and clerk. Other upcoming sales include George Emsley near Elwell, Patrick Whitcraft two miles west of Alma, and Joseph Grala south of Alma, each offering stock, implements, hay, grain, and household goods. The Ladies' Aid Society of the Presbyterian eltred will meet Thursday afternoon November 11 at the home of Mrs Frank Ellsworth sat State street.
The St Louis Globe Democrat reports in Gregory the opening of the government land lottery for Rosebud and Pine Ridge reservations. Judge James W Witten supervised the drawing with two Dallas and Gregory girls selecting envelopes. At the Michigan State Teachers association gathering Gov. Chase St Osborn endorsed using the Bible as a textbook in Michigan schools and urged restoring the Lord's Prayer. He praised teachers as essential workers, pressed for pensions and higher salaries, and urged a state wide federation of teachers clubs. He noted Michigan's vast land and few cultivated acres while praising farmers and conservation work. He spoke at the Normal college banquet at the Hotel Cadillac.
Citizens met at city hall last Tuesday to consider a new school on the ward block with a $5 000 increment. Civic Improvement League members urge all interested taxpayers to attend Friday November 17 in the High school room to view the plans and state views as city children grow.
