Special Alma meeting weighs school growth and land buy

A special Pine River and Arcada district meeting at Alma High School approved borrowing 1200 to buy a school site at Republic and Eastward. Only 31 voters attended. 22 favored the loan. City growth prompts talk of an eight room school as early as next year, with current two rooms in use and Superintendent Schultz predicting three soon.

Alma Lyceum Drama Night at Wright Opera House

The Alma Lyceum and Chautauqua association presents the second Lyceum number Queen Dramatist Mrs Fenetta Sargent Hunakill performing November 8 1916 at 815 pm at Wright opera house. Mrs Haskell will read Justin Hunt McCarthy If I Were King and discuss Shakespeare. The Daily Northwestern praises her reading of Romeo and Juliet and Shakespearean influence with vivid commentary and eloquent delivery. Also notes a J J Hopkins auction November 1 at his farm and a Melehour film showing Republic Truck work in oil fields with a rear wheel modification.

Delegation from Detroit visits Republic Motor Truck Co

A federal delegation from the Federal Motor Truck Company of Detroit toured the Republic Motor Truck Company to see manufacturing methods and growth. Lester Thomas of Saginaw also visited on Tuesday, and the Detroit guests were warmly received by their Alma rivals.

Alma College Falls to Albion Eleven in Posen Tilt

Alma College lost 14 to 10 at Albion in a hard fought game led by Cole and Pasco for Albion who scored on a long dropkick and a late pass. Alma rallied in the final quarter with Smith and Richards driving to Albion’s 12 yard line but fell short.

Crooks Inaugurated As Alma College President

The Alma college inauguration of Harry Means Crooks as president drew a large audience on Wednesday morning. Housing boom in Alma since April first nineteen sixteen

A Alma Record representative counted 337 new houses built or under construction since April 1 1916 and 28 remodels, implying room for about a thousand more residents as the city had no vacancies.
