Alma's Chances Are Good in County Meet and Events

Alma hosts a county wide day with eighth grade graduation in the college chapel, a tennis tournament on college courts, and a third annual Gratiot County track meet at Davie field. Judge Kelley Sears will deliver the graduation address, with fifty medals awarded and Alma city band providing music. The event, run by the county schools association, draws students and parents from across Gratiot.

Senator Ward's Candidacy for renomination announced

Senator N. Ward, long active in local and state affairs, announces his candidacy for renomination. He has held township offices, served as census enumerator, superintendent of schools, postmaster, and state legislator, and now serves in the state Senate. Alma Fans Eager for Saturday Championship Battle

Pine River Man Dies of Tuberculosis

Arthur Foglesong of Pine River township died at his home on Wednesday from tuberculous disease. The funeral was held Saturday at Forest Hill with members of the Forest Hill band providing music. He was married, no children, and survived by his wife and father Henry Foglesong who expressed heartfelt thanks to the musicians for their kindness.

Renowned French concert pianist Emiliano Renand will give a recital at the college chapel on Tuesday June 24. He has performed in major U S and European cities and his Alina appearance will delight local music lovers.

Alma ward school exhibit shows quality manual training progress

A five hundred strong crowd praised Alma ward school’s two year old manual training program. Boys woodwork and girls sewing produced fine furniture and garments while the basement shop showcased tools, drawings, and student craftsmanship under Miss Harford and Miss Warford. The kindergarten displayed a playful city park and a tiny house, cathedral, and mud pie scenes. Lemonade and a piano performance capped the event, with plans for annual exhibitions.

Upper Peninsula road trip aims to share road building ideas

State Highway Commissioner J A Ely and Deputy Frank Rogers begin a three week tour of upper Michigan counties to meet local officials and discuss modern road construction and preservation methods.
