Sixteenth Annual Meeting of Woman's Home Missionary Society

The sixteenth annual meeting of the Woman's Home Missionary Society of the M. E. Church in the Lansing district convened at Alma. Delegates and visitors heard welcomes from area churches, attended services, and heard reports on mission work, with pledges toward running expenses and home missions. The event featured addresses by Rev. G. D. Chase and local speakers, musical numbers, and demonstrations on charitable giving.

Home Missions Talk At Conference Sees Wide Interest

National organizer Mrs. Delia Williams shared extensive Home Missions knowledge at the Ohio conference. Afternoon devotionals led by Mrs. O J Golden, and a paper by Mrs. Dora Lowery on the mission work. Officers elected include President Mrs. Jennie M. Diltz and several secretaries, with the convention set to meet in Ovid in May if Providence permits.

Elm Hall School Exercises Highlight June Events

Elm Hall Schools publish a week of class day events with seven graduates. Clair Reed delivers the Salutatory and Ley Birdsall the Valedictory, June 3 hosts the Baccalaureate by Rey Whaley, and June 7 features the graduation exercises. Patrick Kelly, Republican gubernatorial candidate, will speak to the class amid an engaging program. Friends of the school are invited to all activities.

Tibbits Adele Wedding at 3 O'clock Thursday

Blanche Alta Tibbits wed TD Ross Tibbits of North Rose New York at the Udelle home with Rev Doty officiating. The ceremony featured lilac and pink decor and a crepe de chine gown for the bride. After a two course luncheon guests presented gifts and the couple will reside at 910 Detroit Street Flint Michigan after May 16.

Ordinance 62 dated June 17 1907 strictly prohibits within Alma the use sale or shipment of blank cartridges toy pistols giant crackers cannons torpedoes or dynamite canes and pin wheels and sets penalties up to 50 dollars or 90 days in jail for violations. Alma Lyceum Course selects talent for new season

Alma Lyceum Course committee held a meeting at the Wright House to vet talent for the forthcoming season. Redpath-Sileyton led a spirited contest selecting representatives from Chicago and Denver. The program features the Florentine Orchestra, the Whitney Brothers quartet, Mme Amelia Deville, Alton Packard, George J. Allen, and Judge Ben Bylundety. Receipts total 455.00 season tickets and 199.00 reserved seats with box office 15.00. Expenditures include 515.00 talent and 100.00 rent plus commissions and printing totaling 670.87, leaving a balance of 405. The course is presented as non-profit and aims to please Alma’s audience for the ninth consecutive year.

Railroads urged to expand Durand facilities amid freight delays

Chairman Glasgow of the state railroad commission said the Gram Trunk and Ann Arbor railroads should greatly expand Durand facilities. He noted delays of three to four days, sometimes eight or nine, due to inadequate warehouse and dock capacity. Up to 105 cars move between roads in busy times, far above the usual 60 to 80. He will raise the issue with railway officials immediately.
