Edward W. Phillips son of Pine River township clerk Alonzo Phillips has been appointed postmaster at Forest Hill effective May 4 1909 with a 1500 bond. He plans to move the office to a building on vacant property opposite Cage Wood: the retiring postmaster who helped grow the office’s size and who is active in Republican politics will use the new space for his growing general merchandise stock.

A new law allows rural pupils who pass the state eighth grade exam to attend one of three nearby high schools with tuition paid by the district up to $20 per year. Parents must notify their home district school board of intent by the fourth Monday of June.
To Honor Bishop Gillespie at Muskegon Auxiliary Meeting
At the post meeting of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Protestant Episcopal diocese of Western Michigan held in Muskegon last week a memorial fund of 910,000 was raised for Bishop Gillespie of Grand Rapids. Four thousand was set aside for missionary work among silk mill workers in Belding. An additional fund of five hundred was subscribed for other missionary work. Kalamazoo was chosen for the 1910 convention.

Thomas Bildson Dead in Alma After Stroke
Thomas Bildson born December 14 1835 in Berkshire England died May 1 1809 in Alma aged 78 years five months and 24 days after a paralytic stroke. He moved to Canada at 14, lived in Brant township Luce County then Alma for seven years. He fathered ten children, six living: John Chicago Robert Kalamazoo George Benjamin Alma Marian Fisher Alma Laucel Smith Hanover. Five children and wife were with him at death. Funeral today at George Bildson’s home 27 Gratiot Ave. Rev Elder Baptist church pastor officiates. Crandell Scott funeral directors. Burial Riverside cemetery.

Erwin, missionary of the American Board at Talas, arrived with soldiers to find four American women missionaries, affiliated with the orphanage and mission of Reading, Pennsylvania, in Hadjin for days.
