Annual W C T U Convention Report 6th gathering
The sixth annual W C T U convention met May 4 in Alma with Mrs El H Wood presiding. All seven county Unions sent delegates. only Sowers Memorial showed membership gain and carried home the banner. Res Duffey welcomed the group. Supt Kelder spoke on school reforms and dress reform, urging mother cooperation. Mrs Calkins argued that prohibition spurred temperance laws, noted state measures and defeated bills. Officers elected: Mrs Ella H Wood president, Minnie Crandell recording secretary, Alice Milon corresponding secretary, Adda Clark treasurer, Cora Gardner vice president. Welfare talk and election follow.

Obituary notes Myron L. Briggs born near Alma December 9 1866. He moved to Calhoun County in 1881 worked in Grand Rapids then suffered a head on collision in 1902 leading to double leg amputations. He later ran a dairy farm near Battle Creek until a 1918 stroke and died May 12 in Battle Creek. He is survived by his wife and three brothers.
