Delinquent Taxes Sale in Gratiot County Quick Hour

Gratiot County held a delinquent tax sale May 1 at the treasurer’s office, lasting about one hour. Only 255 descriptions were advertised, with many properties, mostly in Aciley village, returning to collect taxes. Letter Details Oakland Aid After Quake Calamity

A dated April 28 1900 Oakland settlement letter reports Bertha Wade Stevens and family safe after a quake. They opened their settlement building to San Francisco refugees, caring for over sixty women and children. The note describes widespread destruction in San Francisco and widespread housing loss, with Oakland businesses damaged but no fire damage to them.

Peacemaker and Barstow marry in Ithaca ceremony

Walter Peacemaker and Minerva Barstow of North Star were married Sunday afternoon in Ithaca by Rev J H Wilcox. They plan to reside on the groom’s farm. The couple are well known locally and have many friends. The infant child of Decatur Coleman died Monday and funeral services were held at the M E church Wednesday afternoon.

Women’s Club closes year at Mrs Hall home Alma

Lightning Sets Pompeii Barn Ablaze Killing Livestock

During Tuesday night storm George English’s barn, 1.5 miles south of Pompeii, was struck by lightning and burned quickly. About 17 cows, 6 calves, and 5 sheep were lost, horses saved with effort. Hay, implements, and wire fencing damaged. loss estimated at 8000 with 2000 insurance.

First Presbyterian Alma annual meeting to hear reports and elect officers

The annual meeting of the First Presbyterian Church of Alma Michigan will be held in the church building on Thursday evening May 10 starting at seven o'clock. Reports from church organizations will be heard and four elders two for three years one for two years and one for one year will be elected.
