A Mt Pleasant resident writes Senator H J Kane urging caution on the anti cigarette bill. The letter argues cigarettes have useful value and mocks the measure, proposing printed epitaphs about cigarette harm if the bill fails. Harbor Beach confirms FE Ellsworth will head Alma Public Schools succeeding six years at Harbor Beach. Ellsworth, a Normal College graduate class of 7, has eleven years teaching experience and is praised for transforming Harbor Beach schools into a top district.
The first annual President's Conference of the Young Men's Christian Associations of Michigan colleges convened last Saturday at Alma. Delegates from most state colleges attended, with C D Churrey of Olivet and Gattin of University of Michigan among speakers. The event included services, a Sunday Union meeting, and a closing conference, described as inspiring and helpful for Christian life.
Cant beat Swigart as he is reelected to teach science at Paw Paw High School and will begin the term after Alma College closure. He plans to stay for another year with a boost in salary. Swigart visited his parents Mr and Mrs J T Swigart for a short stay.

The debate on hen care, breeds, and poultry business featured impromptu readings as the appointed leader was absent. Next gathering set for May 11 at 5 o clock at Bre Wim Seaman's with readings and a discussion on public utilities under government control.
