Francis King Nominated Mayor At Republican City Convention

The Republican City Convention at City Hall nominated Francis King for mayor with 21 votes to 19 for Montigel, King declared the unanimous choice. D W Adams named city clerk. John F Schwartz then Sam Case for treasurer with Schwartz 34 votes to 6. Spinney chosen for justice of the peace. ten delegates per ward set after a contest. City committee appointed to organize by ward.

Alma residents attended ward caucuses Friday night and nominations were made. First Ward nominees included Supervisor Thomas J. Clark and Alderman J. F. Fuller. others named include constables, ward commissioners, and aldermen across wards with several candidates listed such as John W. Glass, Jno. D. Spinney, J. M. Montigel, and Edwin Hannah among others.

Easter Services Presbyterian Church Music Program

Alma residents embrace river recreation with new launches

Several enthusiasts plan river launches in Alma including Chas Murphy with a Brooke launch, W. J. McVicker with a Gray motor boat, and Robt Marker launching a Brooks. They, with others, are building a large boat house and new canoes. The surge signals Alma recognizing the river as a source of summer sport and a push to dredge and beautify the river.

Pine River Telephone Annual Meeting Officers Named

Pine River Telephone Association held its annual meeting at the township hall last Saturday. Officers for the ensuing year are President Elmer Post, Treasurer Silas Moody, Secretary C F Johnson, and General Manager E W Lake. A committee including E W Lake, John Lanshaw, EK F Packer, Wm Thomas, Jas Kirby and Wm Bartley was formed to pursue incorporation and report at an April meeting as the association remains prosperous with bright prospects.

Sigma Phi Feast Opens Alma College Banquet History

The Commercial Society of Alma College held its first banquet in the Sanitarium dining room last Wednesday night. Jno T St Cyr led the march as toastmaster with Miss Lillian M Jackson. 36 covers were set on pink red and white carnations. Claude Watson spoke for the toast Our First Banquet, Chas D Furgeson for Our Guests, and Ray R Robertson reviewed Sigma Phi history and prospects. Rev Elder closed with remarks. the toastmaster ended with Sigma Phi Punch.

Man Hurt In Foot Crush At Central Michigan Produce Co

Frank Keleath, an employee from Chicago, was seriously injured last Friday at the Central Michigan Produce Co plant. His left foot was crushed and badly cut, swelling prevents bone damage assessment, and he is under Dr. F. McClinton care.

Forest Inquiry Commission and Bills for Michigan Forestry

The Michigan Forestry Association urges legislative support for five measures: a forest fire and game warden bill expanding fire protection and deputies. a state tax land bill ending repeated tax sales and reserving land for forestry uses. a nine member Forest Inquiry Commission to study land taxation and waste. a permanent Agriculture College forest reserve of about 40,000 acres in Tosco and Alcona counties. and a state farm forester to educate farmers and promote wood-lot care. Landslide Delays Ann Arbor Train Above Clare

A passenger train traveling south on the Ann Arbor route did not reach Alma until the afternoon after a landslide above Clare collapsed a narrow cut through which the road bed runs. Tunneling and spring frost left the cut in poor condition, causing several feet of dirt and stones to block the track and delaying service for hours.

A bill from Representative Chambers granting the Board of Supervisors control over County Treasurer deposits, aligned with a recent board resolution, has passed both House and Senate and awaits the governor’s signature.
