Nominated strong ticket at Republican spring election

The Republican city convention met March 21 with John N Day presiding. F E Ettworth named chairman and J Knoertzer secretary as committees on credentials permanent organization and resolutions were appointed and approved. Montigel nominated for mayor by acclamation, D L Sharrar and J W Glass nominated for treasurer with Glass winning 28 to 12. Swigart nominated for justice of the peace and elected unanimously. A city committee for the ensuing year was named by ward.

Mrs C J Sterling Injured in Streetcar Collision

Mrs C J Sterling formerly Agnes Delavan of this city was badly hurt Monday March 15 crossing 42d and Cottage Grove avenue when struck by a passing street car. She sustained a broken collar bone two ribs and a broken left arm with facial cuts and bruises. Physicians expect recovery while husband Mr Sterling, away in Midland, was summoned to Chicago. Sterling has many friends here who hope for a speedy convalescence.

Potter Named likely Successor for Gratiot County School Chief

The incumbent county school commissioner C F Pike plans to resign July 1 and Howard A Potter the Republican nominee is expected to take his place. Potter born 1878 in Eaton County came to Gratiot in 1880 with his parents and is an Ithaca high school graduate.

Searl Nominated for Circuit Judge by Gratiot Republicans

The Republicans of Gratiot county present Kelly S. Searl as their candidate for circuit judge in the 20th judicial district. Born February 4 1862 near Elsie he studied at local schools Northern Indiana Normal and the University of Michigan. He began law practice in 1887 and was elected judge six years ago with a record of only one reversal in nine supreme court appeals from the county.
