Heavy rains and rapid melting snow flood Pine River, overtopping banks and prompting evacuations as residents endure the city’s worst flood on record. Officials warn of continuing high water and potential further damage downtown and residential areas. Local services mobilize to aid stranded residents and secure key infrastructure.
A severe flood hits Alma as the Mihan river rose rapidly from Saturday through Monday, flooding the riverbed and surrounding districts. Bridges at State Street and Woodworth Avenue became impassable, basements flooded, and dozens of homes and businesses suffered damage, with fire services prepped but limited by the inundation.
