Alma's farmers profit from the local creamery as George Hutchinson leads the firm with years of creamery and buttermaking experience. Born in 1846 in Madison County New York, he trained in Oswego and worked with several creameries before settling in Alma in 1850. He married Mary Block in 1866 and has three children. Hutchinson is known for dedication to progress and commanding high prices for his butter in markets.

Death Claims Alma Pioneers In A Morning Notice

Obituary notice from Alma reports the deaths of George L. Spicer, Lucinda Chambers Roberts, and Bam borough. Spicer, born in New York in 1825, helped form Pine River township and ran a meat market and wagon shop in Alma. he left a wife and son Charles. Roberts, born 1840 in Gates Go New York, married to W W Roberts in 1861, had two children Gera and Fred, moved to Michigan in 1865, died of paralysis while driving, funeral at Presbyterian church. Bam borough, longtime resident, died after a sudden heart disease attack at home. funeral held at M B church. Community extends sympathy.

Sunday School Convention Draws Large Arcada Township Audience

A Sunday School Convention in Arcada township drew strong attendance despite bad weather. Devotions by Rev H W Clough opened sessions at the Baptist church, with talks by Prof J W Ewing and Mr H Reynolds on subjects from kindergarten work to house to house visiting. W W Kinch was elected secretary, and evening sessions at the Presbyterian church emphasized missions and Sunday school to church links.

Lecture by Rev De Thomas Praised in Village

A Monday night lecture by Rev De Thomas drew a large audience in the village. Attendees praised the speaker for first class views and artistic expression, noting his language and narrative charm. The event, part of the Art Department, was financially satisfactory and lauded Miss Booth for her dedication to students.

Grateful Thanks and German Festival Notice

Grateful thanks expressed by Union Aid ladies to citizens and donors for relief efforts. A German festival planned March 22 with a German dinner to celebrate Kaiser Wilhelm I’s birthday. Also an advertisement offering the 8 Blue Book on obtaining public office for 75 cents, detailing offices, salaries, and civil service rules.
