Ward caucus nominating American city leaders in Alma

The Al main municipal party held a convention to renominate Mayor H McKinney for a second term and nominate candidates for clerk treasurer and justice seats. Delegates from four wards were named, with committees formed to organize and conduct the nominating process and a vote led to McKinney receiving broad support for another term.

Smith Leads Alma College Basketball Team Captaincy Hope

Malcolm Smith of Alma is chosen captain for the 1917-18 Alma college basketball team. He received nearly unanimous support from seven voters, with Smith praised as one of the best all around athletes. The sophomore has played on every college team to date and is expected to lead the maroon and cream in the court.

Churches of Christ Convenes in District Meeting

Gratiot County Considers Electing a Farm Commissioner

Gratiot County Supervisors voted to propose to voters the creation of a farm commissioner position with a $2000 salary elected for two years. The measure, if approved, would authorize an appropriation up to $2000 for office Expenses and set terms for possible abolition if the public mood shifts. The commissioner would assist farmers with experiments, recordkeeping, and advice, with services free to farmers as used. A March 28 postponement note for Mr Figg’s sale appears at the end.
