A citizen call of the Cite eons Party met at City Hall to nominate election officers and slate candidates. Named were President D. Mourigel and transfer clerk roles, with Nelem F. Clinton Henry Brewbaker and W Caple among trustees, Decator Colemeun as a key overseer.
J Powter of Tottpei won first and third premiums on Yellow Dent corn at the Battle Creek round up institute exhibit last week. The first premium was a portable filtering table sewing table with cubolf saw, provided by the Port Huron Thresher Company and valued at twenty five dollars. What’s the matter with Gratiot?

A bill introduced by Rep. J. W. Holmes passed the Senate and becomes effective immediately, transforming Alma from village to city. Incumbent village officers remain until new city officials take office. all caucus nominees are disqualified and must run again. Four ward inspectors will post notices for the first April election.
The village council met Friday in special session, appointing a Board of Election Commissioners and setting a march 25 hearing for objections to the assessment to defray costs of the Vollasky Sewer or line. President Young announced the Board of Registration and election inspectors with trustees Mantiel Strable and Sanderhoff, and an auditing committee.

A letter from Chas Gage details a near drowning while crossing the Mieuber river en route from New Mexico to Spaulding. The wagon overturned, one horse drowned, the other dragged to shore, Gage survived by clinging to bushes then walked twenty miles home, pursued by coyotes, before reaching safety after nightfall.

New Johnstown New York couple Harris plan to open a vacant store in the opera house block for clothing and gentlemen's furnishings. They rushed remaining stock after late New York shipments. A clerk Max LASICHOR will assist as the first to greet customers and manage the new stock opening.
W H Worewick of American Asphalt Mastic Plant circulates a petition for city property owners on Superior and State streets to fund asphalt paving this summer. The petition will be reviewed at the next meeting and likely approved after detailed investigation.
Dr Troop of Chicago presented notes on Nothing to Shakespeare subjects in a lively lecture. He analyzed the wit and style of Much Ado About Nothing and stressed dramatic reading skills. The afternoon class studied Othello, attracting strong interest, with the next lecture set for March 21 on King Lear.
