The Atlantic Ocean Love and a Fashionable Romance
In a period tale set in a city, Phyllis Payne resists Edgar Merton’s coercive proposal after a chance encounter with a wealthy patron at a shop. Merton maneuvers to secure her affection, but Phyllis rejects him and fears poverty, while Robert Vivian appears as a steadfast suitor from South America. A dramatic confrontation leads to flight and eventual engagement between Phyllis and Robert, vs. Merton’s ominous intentions. A second piece notes a future marriage to a king in Africa, about Nellie Chester’s ascent, and a science-filled glimpse into astronomical preparations and new star-mapping techniques.
