Oscar Canfield a Middleton restaurant keeper died by his own hand Thursday noon at his home. A note blamed loneliness after his wife’s recent death and his mind’s deterioration. He was about 45, with an 18 year old survivor. Local notices record parish events and society meetings in the area.

An installation service Tuesday evening welcomed Rev Alfred Jennings Fannell as pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Moderator Rev Zimmerman presided, Rev A F Hinske asked constitutional questions, Rev Hartley preached on Strength and Beauty, and Rev D Howell urged congregational support. Dr Bruoke gave the pastor’s charge, and Rev Punnell led benediction. Miss Gertrude Whiting sang in the choir.
The Lewiston Morning Star reports the wedding of Arthur J Campbell and Bernice Morey at the bride's parents' home on 56 G Street. Rev Davis officiated in a setting with wedding bells, patterned decorations, a luncheon, and numerous gifts including silverware and china. The bride, daughter of Alderman W. A. Morey, is a social favorite. the groom, with J P Vollmer & Co., plans to reside in a cottage in University addition.
Postmaster Alma Michigan reports a Washington instruction from June 20 1905 to collect box rents at ton office from July 1 1908 with rates for lock boxes lock drawers and related boxes. First Assistant Postmaster General F J Hirortoock confirms prices are fixed by the post office department and funds go to the department.
George Atkin of Coo township near Shepherd in ISM died last Thursday at his daughter Mrs Chas Coddingtons home at Mt Pleasant. His remains were buried beside his wife in Salt River cemetery.
About forty young people from the Episcopal church held a picnic at Maple Ridge farm on Wednesday. They took part in numerous sports and games, and the return trip was notable for its orderly arrival in the large wagon, all safe and sound.
Prominent speakers and a large Alma Schools audience marked the week of exercises. Cloning demonstrations delighted all grades, and a packed Opera House saw students perform poems, songs, and skits. Diplomas were presented by Supt. Rockwell to a long list of graduates including Carlyn Delavan and Helen Thompson.
The Friday evening program in the Opera House concluded the annual class day events. Emily Hooper presented a phono solo, and Rev. A J Fennell offered invocation before Hon. P H Kelley addressed the audience on Does it Pay with Irish wit. The class presented diplomas to John Dunham, Malinda Udelle, Verne Johnson, Nina Ward, Paul Delavan, Bertha Ever, and Catherine Wynne. An Alumni reception followed in the K P hall with social gathering.
Mr and Mrs Roy Mosser wed at the Episcopal church with brief ceremony by Rev L Ramsey. After the vows they fled to join the groom's parents in Ionia and East Tawae, with Alma friends staging a playful train entrance and rice shower. The couple will visit the bride’s parents then return to Ionia where Mosser will begin pharmacy studies in Big Rapids this September.
The Central Michigan Maccabee Association announces a jubilee celebration to be held in Alma in August with arrangements being made in advance. The notice requests Ever Greece Alma Tent No. to be present at the planning events.
The regular session of Wy Kenetat Sumner Grange No. 893 met last Thursday evening with sisters presiding. Officers filled, songs performed, and a resident concern over fire insurance discussed. Awards and prizes given for weight guessing, and a lecture on housekeeping noted.
Last Tuesday afternoon the corner stone for the Catholic church was laid. The Latin services drew a large crowd. In Bishop Richter's absence, Very Rev. Joseph Schremps presided with several local priests assisting. Father Troy thanked Alma citizens for support and funding. Schremps delivered a strong sermon on the church’s mission as construction to begin at once and proceed rapidly.
A Monday afternoon charity ball game between the Alma Travelling Men and the Alma Business Men draws a likely large crowd. First pitch at 2 o clock on Davis Field. Umpires Kelly and Miller. Ambulance on standby and doctors ready for overtime at the gate.
