Wireless Telegraphy Feature At Detroit Blue Ribbon Meeting

During the week of July 24 1888 a wireless telegraphy station will be showcased at the Detroit Bad Rion Meeting. Secretary Walter J Snyderts installed a complete station using the Clark System which outperformed rivals in navy tests. A $100000 government contract followed to equip the New Jersey coast and Lake and river steamers along with Detroit lines. Visitors can view sending and receiving without cost and send messages to others during the event.

Mrs Dunham Dies at 76 in Shepherd Home

Mrs John Dunham, aged 76, died after a five day illness at the home of her daughter Mrs R D Lemen in Shepherd. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. with interment in Shepherd cemetery.

Locomotive Crash Headlines Jackson Fourth Celebration

In Jackson Michigan two locomotives from Michigan Central and Grand Trunk collided head on at twenty five miles per hour during a Fourth of July display. Eight thousand spectators watched as engineers Warren Stoddard and Connie Wilkes escaped injury though Wilkes sprained an ankle. A long track was built on the fair grounds to stage the crash which left a ruinous pile at the center. Separately in Traverse City Thomas Murphy of Grand Rapids was crushed when a track vehicle toppled onto his feet while he slept beside the depot. He, 85, survived without amputation.
