Dr J N Day and Mrs Eleworth escaped death when a freight train backed onto a street near Ely Street and the Sugar Plant. Day warned the conductor and pulled Mrs Eleworth from the car before the collision smashed it. Both suffered minor injuries from broken glass.

College Purchased Home for President

After an extended effort, Alma college has purchased a residence for its president at the corner of Philadelphia and West Superior Streets. The home, long occupied by former presidents, will be repaired to first class shape. The purchase price was not disclosed. A public meeting at the opera house Saturday night will discuss army recruitment and defense, with speakers including Hon. W. A. Bahike and several local officials.

Improvements at The Model Bakery Boost Service

The Model Bakery has installed a new oven cake machine temperature machine electric bread wrapper sealing machine and wall case and pen racks.
