Gov A T Bliss was renominated for governor on the first ballot at Detroit for the republican state convention yesterday afternoon. The vote stood Bliss 11, Stearns 214, Horton 40, Patton 20. Congressman Alden William Smith presided as chairman.
The annual convention of Michigan Christian Endeavor societies meets in Ludington July 22, 28, 24, and 29 with a noted speaker lineup. Rev John PD John, Shailer Mathews, Rev EB Allen, Rev CB Newman, and Oliver H Stewart head a program praised as unmatched for a state gathering. The event is expected to attract a large summer crowd.

Mrs J T Allis reports the death of Theo Van Antwerp at his home in Vertabari Michigan in June 2008 at age 82. He studied at Oberlin College and served as a Congregational minister in Hume New York Alma Michigan and Augusta later living with family in Vesxtaborg. He married Losy Ann Carter of Barns New York and had a long pastoral career across Canandaigua St Clair Morevel Dewi la and Anderson before Alma and Augusta assignments. His wife died years ago and his daughter two years ago leaving three surviving relatives. Rocky Mountain Tea ad ends with local business tagline.
The Alma village Common Council resolves to vacate and abolish the portion of Water street lying south of Genter street to the Pine River margin. A public hearing will be held July 29, 102, at the council chambers for objections. Publication for four weeks in the Alma Record. Attest Village Clerk William W. Kixen
St Louis papers report several grocers tried for selling alum containing baking powder in violation of the pure food law. All convicted, each fined $100. Many powders sold under various names include alum. buyers urged to choose proven cream of tartar brands. Members of the Farmers' Club of Seville and Sumner will hold their annual picnic in Wiley's Grove Elwell Michigan on July Sed A B Cook president of the state association of Farmers' clubs is expected to attend and deliver an address All are invited to attend and bring lunch baskets
