Union Telephone Consolidation Expands Across Central Michigan
The Union Telephone company formed in March with 2 million stock to provide independent service in Gratiot county. It consolidated with Montcalm and later with the National company of St Johns and Owosso to create a major central state system. By 1910 the area covered includes Harrison to Sag inaw Bay City and west to Greenville Lakeview with 2759 telephones in operation. The firm reports no bonds, 4 percent semiannual dividends, and ongoing expansion of toll lines and exchanges, led by A. B. Clark. Sealed bids invited for Alma Village Hall construction with 4 percent certified checks.

Biggest Carnival Week Planned With Largest Ferris Wheel
A Robinson Carnival Co representative visited Alma to arrange a carnival week from Monday July 21 to Saturday July 26. Tents line the main street with the largest Ferris wheel at one end and a backward-dive water stunt from 65 feet. Daily concerts, fire attractions, and excursions are promised, with no gambling. Evening of Music by Miss Whittig Pupils at Opera House
An Evening of Music in Plano featured the pupils of Miss Gertrude Whittig at the opera house last Monday. It was the first public recital for Miss Watts, with high praise as every number was encored. Performers included Mrs Lillian Metullough-Paltrey, reader. Miss Sarah L Ward. Miss Bertha W Stevens. Dr Gor J Brown, violin soloist. and Miss Edith Henson on piano. The program marked the close of the year's work. Miss Whiting plans to travel to Ann Arbor before resuming in September.
