The appraisal notes the largest estate ever in the U S, details about Ava Willing Astor’s anti-nuptial trust and a large inheritance tax payment yielding a five percent rebate, and breaks down real and personal property values and ownership.

Carnival Next Week Arrives in Alma for Weeklong Show

The Pilbeam Amusement company will lease the vacant Alma Roller mills site and arrive Monday afternoon for a seven day stand in Alma. The troupe, transporting about one hundred people, comes by special train from Detroit where eight weeks of performances ended. They bring large tents a Ferris wheel a merry go round and various attractions to entertain visitors.

Saginaw Flyer Narrowly Avoids Wreck

The Pere Marquette Saginaw Flyer on the Greenville to Grand Rapids route ran at 60 mph last Saturday. A derailment scare occurred when the tender’s rear wheels left the rails, tearing ties for a quarter mile before engineer James Robertson stopped the train. The delay lasted 25 minutes.

Alma College bids farewell to Dr Je Liebe Clizbe

At Alma College board meeting Dr Je Liebe Clizbe, longtime biblical literature instructor, tendered his resignation to spend remaining years in less active life. Born in Amsterdam NY and educated at NY colleges, he came to Alma from Mason 16 years ago and served for decades with a salary of 200 a year. Citizens and alumni praise his devotion to Bible study and character guidance.

Twelfth Night Presented by High School Senior Class

The senior class staged Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at the high school auditorium last Monday evening. Amateur cast delivered a bright performance with notable turns by Dick Rock as Sir Toby Belch and Rodney Burgess as Sir Andrew Aguecheek. The five act comedy featured Olivia’s garden set and a full cast list with Orsino, Olivia, Viola, and Maria among others, plus attendants and seamen in a Potter and Olive Smith designed scene.

Union Services On Presbyterian Lawn Sunday July 6

Beginning Sunday July 6 union services will be held each Sunday evening on the Presbyterian church lawn and rotate among city churches. Morning services continue as usual. Inclement weather moves services to the hosting church. Summer at Bay View attracts thousands for season at Traverse Bay

Bay View announces a five week summer program from July 5 to August 11 with the Assembly and Summer University drawing over 5 000 residents and visitors daily. Banquet Tonight For Alumni Association Class

The High School Alumni association hosts its annual banquet in the high school tonight. Attorney D. L. Johnson will serve as toastmaster, introduced by president John M. Dunham. The Presbyterian church hosted last Sunday evening's valedictory address by Pastor Rye Win to a nine member class. Prof Ellsworth and high school staff attended as music by the Glee Club with Miss Fresham. The speaker warned against waste and mediocrity, urging that intellect and effort determine a man’s worth and the world’s resource use.

Alumni at Western Reserve College Recall Class of 1882

A. P. Cook attended Western Reserve College commencement and spoke of a fine time. He noted nine men in the class of 1882, three of whom attended and shared memories from over thirty years ago. In Cleveland he visited his daughter Edith and then spent time with son Robert in Detroit.

Four Presbyterian ministers received doctor of divinity degrees from Alma College. Rev. John Brittan Clark of Westminster Church and Rev. Angus Cameron of Emmanuel Church were honored alongside Rev. T. Ambrose Dunkel of Saginaw and Rev. Aew Johnstone of Cadillac by the college board of trustees.

Alma residents will enjoy top entertainment at Cysta Crystal this summer. The Clarence Bennett company and the Blackaller Bros. company combine to present prime plays each Friday and Saturday night until September openings. Telegram to F W Hooper reports the drowning of Boden Florence Ida and Josephine Case after an accident on the river near Edmonton Alberta dated June 26 1913 The text notes no bodies recovered yet says Ever ett saved and promises fuller details next week and extends community sympathy to the Hooper family backed by Edmonton readers.
