Jury Awards Hall $1000 in Alma sidewalk suit

The circuit court jury ruled in favor of Mrs. Hall in Hall v. Village of Alma, awarding $1000 damages for a fall through a defective sidewalk on Superior Street. Interesting Lecture by Dr Tombocken on Cuba in Havana

Dr Tombocken of Detroit spoke on Cuba in the Sani tarium parlors to guests. He and Senator Proctor of Vermont toured Cuba within weeks of the Maine disaster. They visited prisons and St Ambrosia Hospital where reconcentrados were confined. Barton joined them at Mantangras as Weyler’s brutal methods were described. The lecture was animated and entertaining.

Labadie Duo Star in Redpath Shakespeare Concerts

Mr and Mrs Francis Labadie, famed Alma duo, appear under Redpath Lyceum Bureau with duologue excerpts from Richard II and Merchant of Venice. They portray Festus and Portia with Stella and Shylock, plus a comedy sketch A Happy Pair. Audience predicted large tonight with reserved seats at Webb’s. Critics praise their affable stage presence and versatile, vivid acting in Napoleon’s Old Guard and other roles.

Alma delegates attend the fifteenth annual W R C convention in Port Huron with praise for a profitable meeting led by department president Mrs W B Tarek and assistants Misses Mary F Taylor and Lena M Tarek. Officers elected include Mrs Mary A McConnell y department president, Mrs Eunice Haynes secretary, and Mrs Ema Chamberlin treasurer of Flint. At the fourth quarterly conference of the First M. RE. church in Alma the church adopted resolutions praising Dr. Carrel for his zealous work and requesting his return. The note commends his ministry and character, and seeks continued support for his leadership within the church and community. Also: Ithaca business men challenge Alma merchants to a baseball game at the college campus with a Wright House supper for the losers.
