Alumnat Banquet Celebrates Alma High School Class of 1910
Fred Soule served as toastmaster at the Woodman hall alumni banquet last Friday evening. D L Johnson welcomed guests as the class of 1910 led a procession to a four course supper by the Royal Neighbors, with table favors of white carnations. Speakers included C G Goggin who toasted the class and Roy Cheney who spoke on the class’s future. Edward Titus recalled old memories, Carl Delevan gave A Year’s Retrospect, and Prof F E Elsworth urged continued support for Alma schools. The evening ended with Davis Bros. orchestra closing after a fond farewell.

Alumni Beat College In Classic Day Baseball Match
The Alumni vs College game ended 14 to 4 in favor of the College after six innings amid attendance on Alumnia Day. Missing stars McBride Donnie Duncanson Hill and Shultz altered expectations, while Helmer Mt Pleasant shaped the pitching, and Roy Campbell with Roy and John Campbell formed a hazardous middle infield. Sandy pitched his final College game as Gaunt and Mitchell umpired to satisfaction.

New Athletic Director From Yale Leads Alma's Future Teams
Beloit, Bellevue College, and Carlisle veteran J A Pipal named director of athletics for the coming year at Alma College. Pipal, who assisted A A Stagg at Chicago and Yale last year, brings strong football and baseball credentials. The college parts with Coach Carruthers with regret but welcomes Pipal's proven leadership and bright prospects for winning teams.

Bass Fishing Rules Open Season and Daily Limits
The bass season began June 20 with legal limits set. It is unlawful to take small mouthed or big mouthed black bass between February 1 and June 15. Daily limits: ten bass of any size for black bass, twenty for strawberry, white, silver or calico bass, and possession limits mirror the daily caps. Penalties include fines from ten to fifty dollars, possible jail up to 60 days, and costs. Public Act No 59 approved May 15, 1909.
Physicians Not Liable in Liquor Law Case
The Michigan Supreme Court ruled in People v Dr Rice that physicians cannot be convicted of liquor law violations for issuing prescriptions for liquor even when misused by patients. The Flint case cited that statutes lack intent to punish issuance of prescriptions written or given heedlessly or dishonestly for liquor.

Fire Destroys Slingluff Barn in Elwell Loss $450
At about 12 15 PM a fire at the Martie Slingluff home in Elwell destroyed the barn and its contents along with the building. Surplus merchandise filled the barn. The blaze also affected nearby sheds but did not spread due to an east wind and bucket brigades.

River Party At Turks Grove Draws 40 B Y P U Members
On Monday evening at 6 00 p m about 40 members and friends of the B Y P U gathered at the foot of State Street and were ferried by boat to Turks Grove where a bonfire glowed. Supper followed in picnic style with baskets and freezers. After supper social chat and the tide home concluded the evening. It was the first in a series of river parties planned for the summer and was deemed a great success by all attendees.

Alumni Boat Ride At The Pines Draws Wide Alumni Circle
Alumni gathered for a successful boat ride and lunch at the pines with 28 attendees from classes back to 1892 and states from New York to Kansas. Francis King and Foster Fraker provided launches, Miss Sadie Messinger oversaw the lunch, and Rev. Lewis Brooke was urged for the Board of Trustees as plans form for a stronger Alma organization and a 25th anniversary in 1912.
