The Alma High School graduation week featured sermons and essays by graduates led by Rev W K Spencer and Miss Edna Schwarts. Speaker Rev Nehemiah Boynton urged graduates to Strive on the Upward Trail, balancing life with purpose and duty, amid large attendance and musical performances.
Dr Spencer spoke of beautiful thoughts that guide the Class of 100 toward better lives. Seniors delivered essays on duty to the future and progress, with music by the school and Miss Henson, culminating in diplomas from J W Holmes and benediction by Spencer.
Mr Pleasant delivered the address What is Worth While to the class. Diplomas were presented by Superintendent Goddington and Principal Hanson. Linnie Udell closed with a piano solo. The graduating list includes Blanche Boughton Bert Hayes Walter Haley Ralph Montigel Maud Fleming Vera Minor Hugh Dearing Lizzie Grover Carrie DeLong Beatrice Jones May Gorton Frank Wise Iva Holiday Addie Carbine Roe Hutchins Della Havelin Linnie Udell Maria Grover Roy McGrath. Alumni reception followed at K P hall and banner night at Wright House, a record week for local schools.
The board of education engages new teachers for next year led by Superintendent WT Husson and Miss Marsh from Chicago joins Miss J Smith of Oberlin Ohio and Miss Kagon of Alma. The village tax collection note lists Alma taxes of 1000 and location Smith and Glass hardware store with J W Ghawe as village treasurer.
