Alma High School Chorus Delivers Successful Holy City Oratorio
Nearly two hundred Alma students performed Gaul's Holy City in the high school auditorium. Miss Mae Jones directed a refined rendition with standout soprano and tenor sections and notable solos by Net sorg Bradner and Reese Farrington Veatch. The tenor Mr. G W Wright and the quartet contributed strongly to a polished overall production.

Hyde Injured By Cultivator Blow At Storehouse
Royal M. Hyde, farm implement dealer, is recovering at home after receiving a severe blow to the jaw. He and Barton had been lowering a cultivator from a loft when a wheel slipped, the tongue of the machine flashing up and striking Hyde, rendering him unconscious for a time.

Gerrit Ward Dead A Longtime Alma Banker Civil War Veteran
Gerrit Ward died suddenly in Big Rapids while on a business trip. A prominent Alma businessman and Civil War veteran, he lived in Gratiot county for nearly fifty years. He served as village treasurer and assessor, held state posts, and was president of the First State Bank from 1918 until his death. He helped build Alma from a hamlet to a city and was active in local politics and business.

Alma prepares a bright Fourth of July celebration with a skyward balloon, airship, and bands. The Salvation Army band of Detroit leads the program along with the Shephers band Merrill band and St Louis group. Rev. J. Frank Jackson will give the address. Baseball, races, stands, and a grand evening fireworks display are planned.

Annual Alma high school commencement exercises set
Over three dozen graduates from Alma will receive diplomas next Wednesday in the high school auditorium. Forty seniors, including Howard Handley and Charles Creager, will graduate as the eighth grade also promotes on Tuesday afternoon with thirty seven students earning certificates. The commencement program features an invocation, musical solos, a vocal solo, a diploma presentation, and an address by H. M. Crooks of Alma College.
