Alma College Ends Commencement With 22 Graduates

Alma College closed its thirtieth commencement week with 22 graduates from the college and 15 from the kindergarten department amid favorable weather and large crowds. The baccalaureate address by President Harry Means Crooks urged graduates to serve the nation and uphold American ideals. Graduation events included class day, a college music recital, senior day exercises, and a morning commencement in the college chapel.

Taylor appeals speeding conviction in circuit court

C. H. Taylor, convicted last week in a jury trial for speeding, has appealed to the circuit court. Taylor and his attorney May Poliusky contest the validity of the ordinance under which he was arrested, signaling possible further legal maneuvers. Testimony in justice court indicated speeds of 30 to 60 mph with blur of fence poles as he traveled west of the city. Taylor, from Detroit, serves as consulting engineer for the Republic Motor Truck Co. and other major firms.

Alma population grows as census counts show rapid rise

Alma is a city of 6 066 residents per the annual school census. Takers fear a few may be missed but doubt any omission will alter the total. Growth appears rapid since government counts showed 2 757 six years ago, with a prior pupil census listing 4 125 a year earlier, indicating about one third growth in little over a year.
