The Cum gion Council of te City of Asia will hold a session in the council room on Tuesday June 6 1903 at eight o clock p m for bids on constructing a Tul ansky Sewer. A special meeting of Alma Lodge No agg FL and A M is planned for next Tuesday evening. Porther Lights Missionary Society met at Miss Violet Sandies home with light refreshments. Sunday services at the Presbyterian church led by Rev A J Punnett. Children’s Day exercises and choir music scheduled Sunday evening. Woman's Social League to meet at Mrs William H Latimer’s next Tuesday evening. Society urges full attendance to close the year successfully. Christian Fudeavor Society met Friday at Miss Olive Smith’s home with 38 present. a musical program and refreshments followed.

Gallagher warns local merchants to refrain from extending credit to his son J. C. Gallagher after he left home. The notice, dated May 27, 1405, says debts contracted by the son will not be paid.

Lawmaking to Close June 8 in Michigan

Review of the week at Lansing notes that the Republican legislature pushed through key measures. A primary law framework is set, with the governor expected to sign once in form. The House approved bills on state book inspections and tax commission reorganization while the Holmes automobile bill passed the Senate, cutting speed limits in towns and raising them elsewhere. Alma College Students In Week Of Events And Sports

Alma College students engaged in a busy week featuring church visits, social gatherings, and campus exhibitions. Miss Culston, Miss Gage, and others visited Bay City and Wright Hall while groups toured, the junior class hosted river trip activities, and the Phi Phi Alphas entertained the Frocel Club. The baseball team played two games at Shepherd Deora with a 6 to 6 and an 11 to 6/11 score, and the Freshman rhetorical exhibition was scheduled in the college chapel. The Alma College Concert Company performed in Holly, and the Senior class staged the play Orestes with praised acting and elaborate costumes. Harry Helmer of Parma was named captain of next year’s baseball team.

Private bank inspection bill gains support in legislature

Governor endorsed bill strengthens after recent failures notably Owosso. Advocates say proper inspection could have prevented those collapses. A second bill creating an Assistant secretary for the state board of health was also passed by the house amid debate. The senate plans Tuesday noon adjournment. both chambers continue rapid bill passage, often over the rule suspensions, while new measures pile up.

Alma Albion Game Ends in Albion Victory on Davie Field

Albion defeats Alma 7 to 4 on Davie Field in the last home game of the season. Alma errors hurt them as Albion capitalized with timely hits and strong pitching by Johnson and Striker. Mine collected ten hits for Alma but could not overcome the fielding miscues and Albion’s defense.

Seven Loud Blasts Set City Time Change

The council fixed Saturday evening June 17 at 7 o'clock as the hour to adopt standard time. The city clock will strike on standard time and the water works whistle will blow seven blasts so all may hear and set their watches. The appointed hour is chosen to avoid confusion after other whistles have blown. Remember the date and time for the change.

The June 13 program featured Mrs Iflorepen Hayward Sheline praised for beauty, youth, and vocal talent. Holmes Cowper gave a recital with Detroit pianist Agnes Andras and Detroit composer Kauly Gilmore contributing in accompaniment, with Andris delivering fluent, well-phrased performances.

Old Garland stove admired in Caple Soule window

An antique Garland stove, in use for 47 years and once owned by Mrs. Rosenburg near Sumner, is on display at Caple Soule Hardware Co. She has replaced it with a newer model and envisions the old stove ending up on the junk heap, yet kept as a memory for her grandchildren.
