Sprinkling and Good Roads Boost Local Business Group

About twenty five members of the Business Men's Association met last Thursday night and formed a sprinkling committee to dust and water streets. Officers named include Po Mo Smith, Wm H Caply, F E Pollasky, Stanard, Linyd Ellison, L N Baker, Otto Sanderhet, PT Bangart, Roy Miller, and Geo E Sharrar. James G Kross was appointed attorney to draft an ordinance to shield business men from peddlers and canvassers, while secretary liaised with Highway Commissioner John Greig to repair the angling road south of the city.

Well-to-do Farmer Albert Knipe Found Hanging in Barn

Albert Knipe a 47 year old farmer resident four miles west of Shepherd was found hanging by a rope in his barn last Friday afternoon by his wife. Neighbors speculate the house fire that killed his hopes may have left him despondent though no clear motive is evident. He had lived in Shepherd 40 years and was regarded as prosperous and content.

Alma City to Open Bids for Pollasky Sewer Project

The Common Council of Alma will meet June 6 at eight p m to receive bids for the Pollasky Sewer according to plans on file with the City Clerk. Awarded contractor must furnish bonds equal to twice the contract price and the council may extend bids until May 16 if needed.

Alma Sugar Plant gets new asphaltmastic roof work

The Geo. S. Young Co. completed four asphaltmastic seamless roof installations on the Alma Sugar Company pulp warehouse to solve winter leakage and added about 5,000 square feet of asphaltmastic walk along Court Street in front of the sugar factory and near residences. They also contracted work leading to the Central Michigan Produce Co and Alma Manufacturing Co.

Fast Exhantion Battle Ends 1-0 in Shepherd Victory

One of the fastest and best exhantions of baseball on Davis Field saw Shepherd defeat Alma 1 to 0 Tuesday afternoon. Levi pitched nine strikeouts over five hits for Shepherd, Helmer of Alma allowed seven hits. Schultz's timely hit and Mathews scoring in the fifth broke the deadlock as both teams failed to plate after. Webber made a sensational catch for Alma in right field.
