Doctors Entertained by Alma Sanitarium Hosts

The Saginaw and Bay County Medical Societies met at the Alma Sanitarium on Friday morning May 20. Dr. E S Pettyjohn organized the event with Dr Samuel Kitchen presiding and Dr John McLurg representing Bay City. Over thirty members attended plus guests including Drs. Wylie, Jones and Liddle. A long elaborate fifteen course dinner followed a morning discussion on swamp fever and appendicitis.

Recital Impresses as College Music Dept Shows Promise

The college chapel recital drew a good audience as about fifteen pupils performed with polished touch and tone. Teachers Wagner Beckner and Milliken deserve praise for guiding young artists and the ensemble class showed spirited precision. Vocalists displayed refined technique and strong training while violinists and pianists earned commendation for their confident interpretations.

Remembered Civil War Veteran Henry W. Roberts Dies in Elwell

Henry W. Roberts born July 1 in York New York served in Co G 161st NY Volunteers until war end. He moved to Michigan in 1907, lived in Westertown Elm Hall and Elwell, married Amanda Clark, had three children. He died after a weeklong illness of bronchitis and pneumonia. funeral by Rev H Ene under Gol Ely Post and the WU YU, buried in Elm Hall cemetery.

Decoration Day Observed Quietly in Alma

Decoration Day in Alma passed with few public exercises. G A R and W R observed at the cemetery, many citizens decorated graves with flowers. The community laments the lack of a broader program and calls for renewed initiative to honor fallen soldiers, noting schools historically contributed to observances and urging all Americans to observe the day with proper tribute.

First and Last Alma Soldier Musters Out After Cuba Service

Will Spicer, one of Alma’s brave volunteers, returns by 12:45 Ann Arbor train after a year in the 1st Michigan Infantry. He served mainly in Cuba, was hospital corps, and is welcomed with a Jackson banquet. Souvenirs from Cuba will be shown in local shop windows. Alma notes all local enlistees have returned or remain alive elsewhere.
