Memorial Day observances by Moyer camp G. A. R. in Alma featured an afternoon program starting at 2 o'clock with an address of welcome by Commander Gardner, a prayer by Rev. H. L. Crane, reading of orders by Adjt. Greig, and performances by local students and quartette performers.
The program included recitations and introductions by H J Winchell and Prof. J E Mitchell, followed by a long address by Prof. Mitchell. He recalled Civil War history and urged both regions to honor veterans, noting southern progress and rejecting old state sovereignty doctrines. The ceremony concluded with benediction by Rev. W E Dory and ceremonial songs by students.
A professor argues that America's federal system and ideals of liberty offer a path to universal peace. He suggests sovereign nations could live and trade in harmony, with the United States assuming a guiding role. The verdict rests with future generations of citizens.
A Detroit audience heard Judge Men Litvleay of Denver extoll Michigan as the most progressive state in handling juvenile delinquents. The Grand Lodge of Masons Michigan accepted a gift of the Alma sanatorium and grounds to serve as a Masonic home after a lengthy debate at Port Huron. The property, valued around 150000 dollars, requires about 15000 dollars for a heating plant and elevators. Arthur M. Hume John J. Carl Flint Lon B. Winsor George A. Armstrong and F. B. Stevens drafted the plan and Grand Master Swift led the campaign.
In Alma a Memorial Day speaker Prof Mitchell urged local youths to honor Civil War heroes. He faulted the absence of young men at the observance, noting only four appeared and questioning patriotism, duty, and the heritage that shapes future citizenship.

Sixteen Alma residents attended at the home of Kelly and Searl to organize the Gratiot County U of M Alumni Association. Officers include President S. Sea View and Secretary F. Eliseworth, with plans for annual meetings each January.
Miss Velma Sharp of Alma Michigan, pupil of Leschetizky, has gained praise in Vienna and London for a demanding program. She will appear at Alma College’s artists recital on Tuesday evening June 15, following recent performances with warmth and technical finesse.
