Vermuvian block to house Fishbeck theatre project

The east room of the Vermuvian block leased to Charles Fishbeck chief of the city fire department for a theatre. Remodeling is underway to install up to date equipment. Planned seating for 250 with three exits and a vaudeville front. Completion hoped by August 1 to make Alma a premier vaudette theatre between Grand Rapids and Saginaw.

Runyan Drain contracts sold at Pine River auction

Contracts for the Runyan Drain through Pine River township were auctioned Tuesday at Highway Commissioner Isaac Church’s home. Drain Commissioner Potter of Ithaca cried the bids, with Weas Parr of the city winning the first two miles at 500 per rod after the opening bid of 8 per rod, and subsequent two-mile lots bid at 56.50 and 4.00 per rod respectively. Parr plans to complete his portion this fall and has begun arranging dredging equipment.
