Women Endorse Health Center Plan in Michigan

About fifty mothers and baby health centers were endorsed at a July meeting called by Dr Blanche M Haines to support the Sheppard Towner bill. Representatives from seven organizations backed the plan to establish centers as demonstrations for counties and promote maternal and child health through education and advice rather than treatment. Dr R M Orlin praised the effort as a step toward lower infant mortality and Michigan's standing among states with low death rates. Organizations present included the State Federation of Women’s Clubs, Congress of Mothers and Parent Teacher Associations, League of Women Voters, Women’s Christian Temperance Union, Women’s Benefit Association of Maccabees, Ladies of the Maccabees, and Michigan Agricultural College extension department.
