The Alma celebration of the nation's birthday featured music, speeches, veterans, and athletic events. Fireworks, a balloon ascent, and a large crowd drew merchants and visitors. prize races included cycling, foot races, and a firemen drill. The event concluded with a large balloon火 display and strong town pride. Also noted is the Lake Geneva Students Conference of 1805, with 319 college attendees from 120 institutions, focusing on spiritual life and leadership for Young Men's Christian Associations.
Mrs J H Lancashire hosted a Monday night library party where guests guessed book titles from tastily arranged illustrations. The parade of titles included The Quick and the Dead, Study in Scarlet, All Sorts and Conditions of Men, The Fair God, One Summer, Mack Beauty, Pope's Essay on Man, Near to Nature’s Heart, and Hard Cash. A clue reading Alma and St Louis puzzled guests until revealed as The Mule and the Dead. Later, charades and music followed with refreshments. Attendees included Chaplain and Mrs Losier, General and Mrs Church, Dr and Mrs Pettyjohn, Miss Daniels, Miss Platter, Miss Church, Mrs and Miss Welty, Miss Taneash, Horace Losier and Clarence Church.
