Miss Currence nurses at Mr Milton Hermes s home. Gemdpe Norton kindly remembered the Nelson baby and provided a home. Mrs Kirtland with friends from Detroit visited last Saturday. Norman McIntyre, 81, had a serious accident as his team bolted in town. The tongue came down, the wagon lifted, and he struck the corner of the box tearing flesh from the left leg, requiring a four foot wound.

Last Tuesday evening the lecture entirse committee met in Wright Mouse parlors and elected Prof. J. T. Ewing as chair. Mrs Laura G Van De Mark Dies After Prolonged Illness

Mrs Lawa G Van De Mark formerly of Phelps Ontario county died July 3 1900 in Alma after a long illness. She came to Michigan 74 years ago and lived in Alina the last two years. Services were held at home and Clinton church with Rev Ramsay officiating. Burial at Clinton Lenawee county followed, with Mrs St Johns and other relatives mourned by friends and neighbors.

Riverdale held a lively Fourth of July with a dignified parade and balloon ascensions. Rev. Manchett served as orator and two bands provided music while officers F. W. Rowland and Jack Malin led the event. Citizens praised the orderly festivities, fireworks, athletic sports, and a late evening repast at the Lemon Messinger home.

Sail for Germany July 26 wedding in St Louis area

Prof George Randels and Miss Elizabeth Schmidt plan a July 26 ceremony at Miss Schmidt’s parents near St Louis. After the wedding they will sail to West Unity Ohio then Antwerp to travel the Rhine visiting relatives in Germany. Prof Randels, a Tufts graduate with studies at Alma College and Wisconsin, will enter the University of Jena this fall for philosophy.

City Council Grants Tax Exemption and Street Plans

At the regular monthly meeting the council exempted Asphalt Mahties Company from city taxes for five years beginning January 4. They discussed renaming streets and the establishment of mail delivery, and considered extending the sewer on State street with guarantees from property owners for costs. Sidewalk construction was authorized and routine matters were addressed.

Merry send off as young women bid pastor goodbye

Reverend J. S. Higgins left Alma on Friday for life in Bordentown New Jersey. At the depot a mock wedding was staged with Violet Samiie as bride and other girls as bridesmaids. The prankites boarded the train to accompany the pastor to the States. The crowd dispersed as the train departed and the pastor’s departure drew much amusement from the onlookers.

Annual School Meeting Sets Trustees and Finances

The annual meeting in the High School assembly elected trustees after a lively canvass. J M Montigel reported the finances, showing a mill tax of 31 614.47 and expenses led by financiers' wages at 322 95.
