Fire Department Exhibition Duel on Superior Street
A large crowd watched two fire department teams duel Friday evening near the Wright House on State street. Team members included J. Wink, Shorty Fay, and W. W. Caple against Arthur Rogers, Joseph Sartor Jr., and Kert Thompson. Each side laid 200 feet of hose and aimed water streams to block crosswalks as the contest lasted over ten minutes before Caple and partners drenched their opponents.

New Manufacturing Plant Considered by Alma Board
A Milwaukee inventor, Mr. Ashley, proposed locating a factory in Alma to manufacture his novelties. The Board of Trade referred the plan to the finance committee, which will report July 2. Death of Mrs Fawcett in Alma area
Mrs Wilzaberl Fawcett died at her son P Fawcett's home after years of invalidism. Nearly 74, she lived in Gratiot and Isabella counties for 45 years, moved to Alma from Shepherd three years ago. She leaves one son C P Fawcett. Funeral Saturday from Mr Vavett's residence with burial at Salt River cemetery.
Completing St. Mary's Church Belfry Contract
George S Young received the contract from Rev Father Troy of Hemlock to erect the St Marys Catholic church belfry and prepare the building for occupancy. Work began last week with carpenters and progress is good. Exterior completion and interior fit up will allow services after August 20. The cornerstone was laid in 1900. The building uses cement blocks and measures 40 by 60 feet. Total cost will exceed 10000 dollars.

Ladies elect officers at Rey Elder class meeting

Veteran Farmer Ira Livingstone Ends Life in Despair
Ira Livingstone, seventy, a Civil War veteran from near Forest Hill, was found dead with a revolver beside him after leaving home following domestic troubles. A coroner's inquest ruled self-inflicted death, with despondency noted as the likely cause. his pension was about $24 a month.

Mrs Harvey Davis and two children left Thursday for Lansing to visit her sister. Lydia Livesay departed for Adrian after visiting Miss Edythe Adams of the Sanitarium during nurses’ graduation.
