Alma district to vote on budget and playground land

The Alma school district will hold a July 10 meeting to elect two board members, approve a proposed budget of 113 015, and decide on buying 18 Elmwood Park lots in Alma for a playground and Republic School patio. Nine Injured In Crystal Lake Car Crash

Nine Lansing residents were injured Sunday afternoon when a truck driven by Charles Riley failed to pass another vehicle on a narrow Crystal Lake road and crashed into a tree. Six returned home days later. others remained hospitalized. Injured include Charles Riley, Mrs Riley, Lethe Riley, Lilly Little, Mr Riley, William Daniels, Mrs Daniels, their two young sons, and Mrs Little.

Maude Gale Struck by Train a Narrow Escape

Maude Gale, two, living on Grafton Avenue, narrowly escaped death when an Ann Arbor train struck near the Grafton crossing. The engineer stopped the locomotive after seeing the child in the danger zone, saving her from a fatal impact though she suffered head injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Michigan Receives Second Pieric Acid Allocation for Land Clearing

A second large shipment of pieric acid totaling 1 250 000 pounds is being sent to Michigan farmers for stump clearing. Alma College endowment drive reaches goal in tough year

Alma College concluded its endowment campaign at midnight Friday with pledges totaling 647 480 52 including late mail pledges. Major gifts from the General Education Board and Carnegie Corporation helped reach the conditional targets, with further gifts from Mrs Dodge and Mrs John F Dodge boosting the total. The drive funds a new gymnasium and remodeling projects, and 6 300+ donors contributed despite wartime financial strain.
