The former superintendent of schools marries a well known local young woman in a Pleasant Ine ceremony. Family and friends aboard the town’s social pages note the couple’s happiness and wish them well as they begin married life.
Mrs. Clark of Pompeii is the lon gnest of Mrs. Fraker. Mr. Taylor visited his daughter Mrs. Jacob. The moatman's bell rang again on our street. Mrs. Hawley plans the Fourth with her parents near Wheeler. Mrs. Oarmer and children left for New Lothrop to spend the Fourth. Clifford Gardner of Thompsonville visits his grandmother here. Blanche Boughton went to Manistee for the summer. Mrs. Geo W Hood of Muskegon called on relatives. Mr. Jacob called Kent County due to his mother's illness. The F. and E. social club was hosted at Mrs. Frank Barnes's home.
At the Wilson home on Elyat a large wedding for Atta Wilson and Willis Hanson unfolded with a full ceremony officiated by Rev Willard Spencer. About ninety guests, a Mendelssohn wedding march, rich decorations, and a train departure at 4:20 accompanied the festive reception. The couple, long noted in Alma society, plan to reside in Manistique Mich where Hanson will be superintendent of schools.
A Register of Deeds filing details a Huron & Michigan Railroad Co mortgage securing 2.3 million dollars with first mortgage bonds, five percent gold bonds maturing in 1985, to be issued for rights of way along a proposed electric road from Saginaw to Grand Rapids. The 55 page document covers Kent and Montcalm counties and traces routes through Sumner Alma Pine River St. Louis Bethany Breckenridge Wheeler and Saginaw, with Pere Marquette and other lines involved.
An old-time patriotic temperance celebration is planned at Lakeview for the Fourth with a full program. Rev F P Arthur of Grand Rapids will give the patriotic address. President A F Broske of Alma College will present an educational address. Rev and Mrs Ferris of Grand Rapids will give temperance addresses in the afternoon and Rev J F Lewin of Jaekeon will speak on good citizenship in the evening.
Forepaugh and Sells Brothers advance agent arranged contracts for a circus exhibition in Alma this year. A second car will advertise around July 10 with more ads. The event is set for Saturday August 8 at Buffalo Hall Wild West site on Ward and Hall addition in the north part of town. Joioa trains will arrive over the Ann.
