Highways Improvement Drive Formed in Alma and Vicinity

A new permanent organization to improve Alma area roads was formed in the council rooms with Simon Messinger as president C F Brown secretary and G M Ward treasurer. Fundraising by business men will buy gravel tile and wages for shovelers and a road supervisor. A labor solicitation committee from farmers was named with J S Caple C F Brown S Messinger LH Hayt and Win Wilson.

Jail Delivery Ends In Jailhouse Breakout At Tedden

Sheriff McCullough reports two prisoners Frank Wright and Robert Mason escaped from jail at Tedden during a night disturbance. A tunnel and improvised crowbar used to breach the wall enabled the escape while another inmate slept. No recapture news yet. Also noted is a remarkable antique scalp and trophy discovery on Lt. Wolfe’s farm, a 76 to 100 year old collection, plus forthcoming Alma Sanitarium stockholders meeting in Ating Michigan. The notice lists equipment, dates, and a pair of stray livestock listings with rewards.

Howe Harlock marriage and Blanchard Miller wedding report

A wedding at Wim Howe’s residence united William A Howe and Frances Harlock with Rev. W F Jones officiating. Guests from outside town attended and gifts were ample as the couple plans to stay in Alma until August before moving to the Soo for the groom’s teaching position. Charles Blanchard weds Agnes Miller in Koantain Street with Dr Geo F Hunting officiating. reception planned at the groom’s parents’ home and Rev Blanchard to continue as pastor at Schuoleratt Michigan.

Ancient Arcada Pioneer Mrs. H. S. Taylor Dead in Home

Mrs. H. S. Taylor widow of Horace S. Taylor a leading Arcada settler dies of heart failure at her residence four miles southwest of Alnut after an illness of over a year. She belonged to the Starr family with 300 year lineage and leaves two children Mrs. Richard Anderson and Ray Taylor. Funeral plans possible today. Grandma's Tea at ten cents is advertised. Dr Frank Gunsaulus, Chicago preacher, hospitalized in Alma after fatigue with nervous prostration. ambulance and private nurses managing care.
