Alma Michigan Sugar Co plant closed after 107 days of beet slicing from Oct 1 to Jan 25, producing 14 500 000 pounds of sugar from 64 000 tons of beets. Labor paid over 75 000 and farmers received 320 000 for beets from 7 000 acres. Contracts for next season already underway with prospects of larger acreage in 1907.

The Republican City Convention in Alma Michigan convenes at City Hall with ten delegates from each of four wards to nominate nine delegates for the Republican County Convention in Ithaca Michigan. The meeting is set for Monday February 4 at 7 30 oclock p m according to standard city time.

Alma banks announce a new 4 percent interest rate on all savings deposits of six months or longer. The move aims to mobilize cash hidden in ticks, texcups, and old stockings, encouraging patrons to place idle funds in the banks and expand active use of savings.
Last week in Ashley the Brimmer hotel became the center of attention as Brimmer vs Locher yielded a not guilty verdict in justice court at Ithaca after a lengthy assault case. Brimmer later barred all Ashley residents from the hotel unless they have business there, enforcing strict entry rules to improve town life.
A residence in Pompeii occupied by Roy Carr was found on fire at 1 30 PM last Wednesday. The blaze destroyed most of the home, with only a few small items saved. The well kept house, one of the village’s best, suffered total loss. Possible ignition from ironed clothing left near a stove. Carr’s mother Mrs. Carr had household goods moved from this city to Pompeii for temporary use by son and family.
Prof H R Pattengill notes Gratiot county 75th semi annual teachers association session as a strong, cooperative event. Alma Ithaca and St Louis contributed to harmony and lively discussions. Supt Dewitt presided with skill as local entertainment and chorus impressed attendees.

The Brock Heater Company organized last week in Alma with capital stock of 20000 dollars. Officers named include A W Brock as President and General Manager L E Willson as Vice president T A Johnston as Secretary and A W Brock as Treasurer. The company acquired patents and tools from Mr Brock and will begin manufacturing the drum heater to save fuel costs this winter.

Alma Superior Rebekah Lodge No. tor 0,0, FP extends sympathy to the bereaved family and notes the sister’s death. The charter will be draped for thirty days and a memorial page will be prepared, with copies sent to city papers and the family.
A proposed Indiana bill introduces a bachelor tax plan. It sets rates for single men by age: under 25 none, 25 to 30 twelve dollars, 31 to 40 seven dollars, and over 40 ten dollars, aiming to raise revenue from unmarried men.

On a Wednesday evening at 6 30 the Christian parsonage hosted the wedding of Mr Charles Leland and Miss Mabelle Wilson both of Forest Hill. Witnesses were Leo Wood and wife. The couple are well regarded and the Recorn extends congratulations for a bright future.
