Pioneer Eckert, 94, Dies in Arcada Town ship
Abram Eckert longtime Gratiot county resident and area pioneer died last Thursday at his Arcada township home at age ninety four years nine months and twenty six days. Born March 13 1832 he moved from Esopus to Wayne county then Lona county before settling in Arcada in 180. He and Amanda Courter raised thirteen children eight surviving. Funeral was held Sunday at his home with Rev J W Priest. burial in Riverside cemetery. The Alma College senior class hosted a party for Miss Barh Cook and Roy Phillips planed to Traverse City for a teaching post.

Track Team Turns Out Strong For Season
Coach Miramaster called for track men last Monday and turnout exceeded expectations. Most returning athletes are present except Edgerton and Misner in weight events. Alma man killed in Michigan Central wreck near Jackson
Marry Smith of Alma was killed when the Michigan Central train collided near Jackson. He and his wife Teema Ellis Smith and their one year old Archie Leroy were traveling from Alma to Hillsdale to visit Mr Smith's parents. Teema was injured and taken to a city hospital. Marry died from a fractured head and injuries.

Man Commits Suicide In Alma Area By Carbolic Acid
Burton Zink aged 48?8 committed suicide Thursday afternoon at 1 15 in Alma area. He lived with his brother in law Andrew Welch on the Charles Johnson farm one mile west and two north. He entered Rhodes Drug Store about 1 pm bought carbolic acid and swallowed the bottle's contents when unobserved. He collapsed and died before Dr. Gardner could arrive.

Sumner Lodge Hosts County Camp Banquet and Officers Installed
Public installation of officers and banquet conducted by Sumner lodge of the Modern Woodmen of America drew broad turnout in Ithaca and Alma areas on January 21. Charles Boowh received the title of colonel and was installed as general officer. Sumner Woodmen led county efforts with outdoor concert by Sumner orchestra and a dance with sisters taking active roles. The County Young Men's Christian Association reported its second annual meeting on January 23 with attendance from Breckenridge, Stowe, and Ithaca. financials showed total receipts of 2482 dollars with expenses detailed. future fundraising planned and several officers reelected.
