A farmer's institute will be held at the Colondal aperi hewce in St Louis on Friday and Saturday, February. A general discussion of farming will be a feature, with many prominent speakers secured for the event.
Kalamazoo defeated Alma College 31 to 28 in a close high school gym contest Saturday night. Alma led briefly in the second half before Kalamazoo surged, with Huyeke scoring late to seal the win for Kalamazoo. Gallagher and Marks led Alma, while Thomas, Huekye, and Velden starred for Kalamazoo.
The Gratiot County Farmers Institute drew a large audience at Ithaca in late January. J N McBride of Burton conducted and spoke on Marketing of Farm Produce while Prof H G Bell of Chicago discussed plant nutrition and soil fertility. The program covered silos, farm management, bean culture, drainage and other agricultural topics with music and readings interspersed.
The ninety first semi annual meet ing of the Gratiot County Teachers association will be at Ithaca High School on Feb 11 12. Instructors include F G Blair C S Larzelere and Lois Wilson. Program covers music, lectures on education and history, reports, and a de bate. All teachers should attend.
Lena VanDeventer chairs a meeting with violin solos by Irene Sackett and a 15 inch Practical Household Science segment led by Dora Stockman. Pearl Jenne presides over recitations and officer elections as Creed Hoyt visits. Guests include Mr. and Mrs. John Montari and Frank and Charlie Withey visiting Dudley Hoyt. Channing Parsons toured the Detroit show.
Residents favor 24 hour electric current over twelve hours urging city to expand the plant. Presently the city owned plant operates twelve hours daily and requires extensive maintenance. A public meeting will plan enlargement funding and assess securing plants to ensure continuous power.
The Michigan Agricultural College announces summer Rural Life conferences with courses on hygiene. A college bulletin details how germs from uncooked foods and contaminated water spread diseases like typhoid fever and dysentery. It notes dangers from mosquitoes and decomposed meat and asks what is done for country areas.
A January report outlines the U S House and Senate conference on an immigration literacy test and exclusion for constitutional inferiority and chronic alcoholism. It notes Hobson amendment vote on a constitutional prohibition and action on prohibition measures in Arizona and absinthe bans, plus a 1915 vessel liquor ban for minors.
In Gratiot County Circuit Court a chancery case files William G. Harris and Sarah M. Snook as complainants against Edward G. Bement and Leroy B. Harris with unknown heirs legatees devi se or assigns as defendants in the matter of a property dispute seeking relief through the court.
Regular court session in Ithaca January 9 1915 grants probate notices for several estates and real property disputes. Shown are quiet title suits for lands in sections 23 and 26 township 12 north range 2 west Michigan with defendants Bement and Harris summoned in person or by publication. Also appointed probate admins and hearing dates for Fannie Smith and Ammi Wright estates.
In Gratiot County at Ithaca Probate Office on December 23 1914 J Lee Potts Judge presiding the estate of George Farrough deceased was admitted to probate Will K Ludwig of Ithaca Michigan named administrator hearings set for April 28 next at ten o clock a m four months from notice public weeks prior to hearing to be announced in the Alma Record official copy by the Clerk of Probate.
