Merchant Slater to Move to Larger Alma Store
Pred Slater, renowned merchant at 106 Superior Street, will vacate his present shop for J. W. Robinson’s space between February and move to a larger Alma store. A gala opening with college band, quartette singing, vaudeville acts, and a band-uniform fund drive is planned. Slater will donate the net profits from opening day to buy new band uniforms. The new premises will be about four times larger, with expanded tailoring, custom shirts, a bigger sales staff, sidewalk show cases, and updated fixtures. Slater, formerly a Chicago road salesman, began his Alma venture two years ago and has since grown the business.

Remarkable brain operation by Dr. B C Turek in Jacksonville
Dr. B C Turek formerly of Alma performed a groundbreaking brain surgery at St Luke's hospital in Jacksonville Florida on John Brown a Baltimore resident aged 23 with epilepsy linked to a prior skull fracture and silver plate. The operation removed the plate and used new tissue to cover the brain with a silver plate, after which Brown has shown no epileptic symptoms. This could revolutionize treatment for such cases and alter prognosis for epilepsy patients. Dr Turek a prominent physician with training at Michigan University New York and Chicago medical centers has held positions from Alma sanatorium to Chicago hospitals and is affiliated with multiple medical societies and clubs in Illinois and Florida.
