The new city well, sunk to 775 feet by Purcell contractors under city manager William Reynolds, struck water at about 250 gallons per minute. Despite eight times the depth of Purcell wells, its cost matches a single Purcell well and it could supply a large share of the city’s needs. The well is being tested and soon to be connected to the pumping station.

Fire destroys home of Ezra Fastlick on South Moyer Avenue
A fire last Saturday morning completely destroyed the Ezra Fastlick residence on South Moyer Avenue. The roof caught fire and spread rapidly, forcing the family to flee around 1:00 a.m. Firefighters could not save the house, which burned to the foundations. Chief Sartor estimates the loss at about 21,500 plus furniture and clothing.
