Wednesday Fire at Court Avenue Home Investigated

Emma Resine Cole born New York 1844 died in Alma January 17 forty nine years ago. Married D McCarty Thamesford Canada twenty five years ago, came to Michigan and settled in Alma. Funeral services Sunday at Methodist church Kew Wolfe officiated, remains laid to Riverside cemetery. Husband and two sons survive.

A College Pioneer Gone Mrs Catherine Ewing Dies
Mrs Catherine Ewing mother of Professor J J Fiwing died after long illness. Her death shocks the college and community, ending a life tied to Alma and to many students and towns. She was born near Sparta Illinois, married Joseph W Ewing in 1850, and lived in Sparta Perryburg Saginaw and Tonian. The Ewings left a lasting memory in the schools and libraries they helped build.

Last Monday afternoon F C Stooks, a painter, demonstrated a cow to a prospective buyer. While tying the animal, a cow horn struck Mr Jacobs in the right eye, tearing the eyelid and injuring the eye. He was moved to Basinard Hospital for care, with hope of saving the sight.
