Largest alfalfa seed yield in Michigan by one farmer

Michigan farmer F A Petz of St Clair county threshed 55 bushels of alfalfa seed this season, enough to plant 300 acres. Professor J F Cox of Michigan Agricultural College notes the unusually favorable year and Petz’s three years of consistent seed production. The crop stems from strains planted a decade ago and from newer seed two to three years old. The statewide alfalfa drive aims to boost local use of Michigan seed or hardy Northwestern strains endorsed by the college. The St Clair effort is part of a broader campaign led by the state college crops department.
