Counties Must Pay in Advance

The Michigan highway department says counties must advance their share of construction costs before trunk lines are built. The department ended 1921 owing about 2,000,000 to contractors while counties owed 2,400,000. If paid in advance, contractors could be paid immediately. delays force debt and hardship for materials and labor providers. Garage Moves to Thompson Street Location

The Chevrolet Garage run by Shreve and Buccanning has relocated from south side Superior Street to the Thompson Garage at Park and Superior. Clerk Injured On Ladder At Local Meat Market

Charles E. Pettyjohn, a clerk at J. A. Bartley meat market and grocery on East Superior street, suffered a severe fracture to the left leg while on a rear ladder. A can of oysters and a patch of ice on the concrete floor contributed to the fall as he leaped to avoid injury. He was taken home on Rockingham avenue and is reported to be recovering.

Memorial Monument Planned for Ammi Wright in Alma Park

Alma city commission votes to erect a granite memorial in Wright Park for Ammi W. Wright, a historic benefactor. The five foot square base rises ten to twelve feet with lights, a bronze tablet, and a drinking fountain. Walks from Orchard street will lead visitors to the monument near the bandstand and fountain. Citizens with colored field stones are urged to contribute stones to build the monument.

License Enforcement Urges Auto Owners to Secure License

Sheriff Willett and Chief Campbell warned yesterday that the law requires new licenses on all automobiles and trucks by January 1. They pledged to uphold the letter of the statute, with no leeway for late or unlicensed use this year. Public drivers must have valid licenses before operating vehicles.
