Organization forms Gratiot County forestry committee
The Gratiot County Committee of the Michigan Forestry Association held an initial meeting at Francis King's residence. Prof. James Mitchell chaired temporarily, with E. D. Pennell as secretary and Dr. E. N. Transean as permanent chair. Members named include W. T. Pitt, Chareh, W. F. Young, Jotham Allen, and others. The state association dates to August 30, 1905, aims to promote practical forestry in Michigan and forest law improvements, with a planned large January 1906 gathering of foresters.

Total deaths in November reached 4 044 with a rate of 12.6 per 1 000. Infant and elderly deaths were notable. pneumonia and influenza rise contrasted by fewer diarrheal deaths. Miss Weyant traveled seven miles north of Shepherd to attend an appendicitis patient operated on by Dr. Holcom of Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Brainerd visited Toledo to see her daughter Mabel. Miss Reid cared for a typhoid fever case in Vestaburg for Dr. Ballow. Miss Knight returned to Clare after five weeks or a typhoid case at Riverdale. Christmas Day they removed a tumor from Fred Thornton’s neck. Christmas Day emergency call to Riv erdale led to Mrs. Reed’s ruptured Fallopian tube operation with Dr. Brainerd, Dr. Smith, and Miss Rosa aiding. surgeon Dr. Gardner aided diagnosis and time to save her. anaesthetic by Dr. Shaffer of Elm Hall. Dr. and Mr. Brainerd were in Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday.

Alma Woman Recalls Abusive Marriage and Convict Arrest
Mrs Ed Gould, once married to M M Letts, recounts a brutal eight year abuse in Chicago and a later arrest in Grand Rapids last Thursday for recaptured convict Letts. She credits the arrest to safety and recalls past threats in Northville and Saginaw while her family remains respected in Alma.

Ward vs Pike Renner suit over forged note heard in Alma
The case of G. B. Ward against J. D. Spinney and defendants Pike and Renner went to trial in Alma's Public Building. A note dated January 18, 1905, signed by Mr. and Mrs. Pike and indorsed by Mr. and Mrs. Renner, was alleged forged or misrepresented. The jury found the note valid and awarded $103.67 to the plaintiff. Attys: Kross for plaintiff Hayes for Pike, Tuttle for Renner. The trial drew a large audience and the hall may be used for future jury trials by consent of the mayor.
