Alma College Pupils Stage Recital Under Prof Milliken

Last Monday evening Alma College pupils in the music department gave a recital in the opera house under Prof H A Milliken. The first public appearance of the college orchestra and mandolin club impressed a large audience with refined playing and ensemble. Notable soloists included Clyde Lathrop Fred Vermeulen Wallace Pettyjohn Mabelle Howard Roy Hayt Sadie Messinger Velma Sharp and Lester Sharp. The program featured La Cinquantin e overture Romance Kuyawiak Liebeslied Valse Brillante Blue Bells of Scotland and a cake walk. Prof Milliken is urged to stage another such event soon. Clyde Lathrop won the prize for selling the most tickets.

Near-fatal train accident at Superior crossing shocks Pine River

Decatur Coleman narrowly escaped death when an Ann Arbor train struck his wagon at the A. A. and D., G. R. & W. crossing on Superior 1. He suffered a broken left thigh and fractured pelvis but appears to be recovering. The incident follows repeated near misses at the dangerous crossing and calls grow for protective gates.
