Moody family on winter trip to California by 1911 train

Henry G. Smh Dead Former Congressman Dies in Adrian

Henry G. Smh, a former congressman from Michigan's second district, died at his Adrian home after pneumonia illness. Born in Ontario County in 1886, he moved to Lenawee County at age three and graduated Adrian College in 1878. He campaigned for Zhoharkaly Chandler, served as Adrian city attorney, won a notable U S Supreme Court case against the 1S & MS railroad, and was elected to Congress in 1898. Burial was held Sunday at the family residence in Adrian.

A W Wright of Saranac, Michigan, has sold his stake in Advance Thresher Co of Battle Creek as the giant merger with M Rumely Co of La Porte Indiana and Sout Company of Richton, Lind, completes. The Merge creates a new entity named the M Rumely Co with $22 million capitalization. Cash and stock valued around $4.8 million go to the venture’s organizers and local stockholders receive about $900,000 in merged stock. The board will stay in place temporarily until a meeting to elect officers.

BUYS ELECTRIC PLANT IN CLARE BY DETROIT FIRM

The Electric Light Co of Clare has sold to Consolidated Light and Power Co of Detroit. The deal includes the entire electric plant, water power lease, and city lighting contract. The new company plans dams on the Chippewa River to supply power to Clare and nearby towns, with expected capacity 10,000 to 15,000 kilowatts, reinforced if needed.

Attorney General Rules Tax on Land Contracts After January First

Blesch Resigns to Join Norvell Roller Mills

Blesch, who moved to Alma years ago and worked as a salesman in the grain department for Alma Grain and Lumber Co, tendered his resignation December ath and accepted a similar post with Norvell Roller Mills run by W. T. Naldrett. He previously conducted his own business in Marion and covered Michigan for Alma Grain and Lumber, and will relocate his family to Alma as his new duties cover the same territory he has served.
